NO! THIS IS NOT A PRO/CON HELMET POST!
It's a true event that I wanted to share. I friend of mine pulled up to a gas staion to put air in his tires. The concrete slab by the air pump was uneven and cracked in several places. As he put his kickstand down, a piece of the concrete broke off. This was all right next to a board "privacy" fence that the owner had put up. When the piece of concrete broke, he and his bike lost their balance and fell over against the fence. The handlebars hit the fence and held the bike up, but he couldn't move. It was like a vise had his helmet and he was just stuck. He undid the chinstrap and stood there in amazement when his helmet didn't fall off the wall. The helmet was stuck on the sharp point of a nail that was sticking out of the fence, about three inches long, right at the temple area of his helmet! If he hadn't been wearing his helmet, he would most likely have been killed instantly. Just wanted to pass that along.
